Relapse Poem by Gerald Opio

Relapse

Sin sin sin...
My terrible nightmare
Always making me fall
Whenever I try to stay upright
Creating a diversion
In my quest to draw closer to God
When I bow down
Pray fervently
And ask the Lord for forgiveness
Not long does it take
After my repentance
For me to relapse
And fall again
Time and times again
I haven't been able to keep my word
My God, how can I change
From my shortcomings
I am failing to live like I ought to
But, I won't give up
For as long as I live and try
There is hope
My faith will not falter now
I have not come this far just to give up on myself
My heart, body and soul still belong to you Lord
For I shall serve you for as long as time dictates
My times on earth belong to you
Who created and gave me life
Thence I live for you who knows me and loves me unconditionally
You rebuke me with love and compassion
Your tender mercies are evident in my life
Manifesting your grace regularly
Freeing me from all affliction and rejection
Slow to anger
Abounding in love and mercy
Is who you are Lord
May your name be exalted from all ends of the earth
And your name be blessed
