Reflection Poem by Jonathan H. Scott

Reflection

In pensive silence mused the king,
For quiet time clear thoughts would bring
Reflective wisdom to the Crown
That brought his kingdom wide renown.

Though rich in treasure, gold and jewels,
'tis not by wealth a monarch rules,
But by his fair, judicious hand,
Which metes out justice through the land.

For truth wore heavy on his heart,
Which some could only grasp in part;
Elusive, though ‘twas not in vain
To seek the truth that others strain.

When time revealed the truth to be
Less noble than was plain to see,
He judged with mercy through his reign
Across the land and bounding main.

Yet, when his hand was duly pressed,
He'd onward fight and without rest
Subdue his foe with measured force
And quell the violence at its source.

Alone he'd stand to fight the foe
And, had he failed, then all would know;
But, on the field, he could not hide
The faith and courage at his side.

And when the prize he sought was won,
While others wished his crown undone,
Unto his queen he came at last
And in his arms he held her fast.

Upon her lips the perfect kiss
Was placed and found its perfect bliss,
And knowing all comes from above,
He knelt in thanks for his queen's Love.
