One day the master of the house spied her at her devotions. There was a divine light enveloping her as she prayed. Shocked that he kept such a pious soul as a slave, he set her free. Rabia went into the desert to pray and became an ascetic. Unlike many sufi saints she did not learn from a teacher or master but turned to God himself. True Devotional by the great poetess Rabia Al Basri. A finestb read.

The one who tastes, knows; the one who explains, lies. How can you describe the true form of Something In whose presence you are blotted out? .........................Magnificently worded, a very precious classic poem of faith. About The Truth and nothing but The Truth.

Rabiyatul Adawiyya, the sufi mystic....... " O Lord, if I worship You because of Fear of, then burn me in; If I worship You because I desire Paradise, then exclude me from Paradise; But if I worship You for Yourself alone, then deny me not your Eternal Beauty

Heart to heart transaction without any intermediary is the true love. An enchanting poem and a classic indeed.

dang! this is the second poem, i think, by rabia al basri, that i've encountered here in ph, and i'm thinking i need to look her up in my local library catalog and, if there's a book by her or with her work, reserve it. so first, to ph, thanks for introducing her to me. this poem is packed with truth in its nine lines. lines 2-7 especially impact me. -gk

Beauty and depth, all enclosed within a few meaningful lines. Nicely crafted. Well done!
