Reality Poem by Jacquie StewartHeimann

Reality

Masterpieces of sun dappled trees.
Destruction of ice caps and rising seas.

Blessed birth of your first child.
Earths natural bounty defaced and defiled.

Purity shines in drops of dew.
Terror of soldiers marching through.

The euphoric sound of children's song.
Sadness fuels the starving throngs.

Dazzling visions in grains of sand.
Hopelessness as books are banned.

Wisdom gleams in aged eyes.
Desolation grows as children die.

The raging roar of breaking waves.
Despair found in massive graves.

Love in puppies sloppy kisses.
A sea of suffering injured masses.

Coldness of the distant moon.
Diseased bodies no longer immune.

Comfort of your love's embrace.
Deadly dangers coming from space.

Colorful splendor as flowers bud.
Surreal landscape of flame and flood.

A child sleeps in innocence.
The rising tide of immigrants.

Majestic mountains shroud in clouds.
Weariness etched in hard struck crowds.

Thankful families gather around.
Chaos in a war torn town.

Scampering squirrels at joyful play.
Carnage escalating as schools are prey.

Sacred Havens help survivors thrive.
Tyrannical despots contrive to deprive.

Artistic serenity of birds in flight.
Prejudice victims cower in fright.

Glowing radiance of a setting sun.
Decimating vortex where jobs are none.

A storybook wedding with shared beliefs.
Anguish of a mothers grief.

The delicate flutter of butterfly wings.
The ignorance of words that sting.

Graduates celebrate their aspirations.
The world is nothing but fighting nations.

Forgotten tales in dusty tomes.
The tragedy of bombed out homes.

Glowing happiness of kids at play.
The heartbreak of a crushed bouquet.

Brilliance dancing in a campfires flame.
Soldiers continue to kill and maim.

A child's first steps show joy and enchantment.
Tumultuous storms of crimes run rampant.

The good and bad that balances our world,
The strings that bind are becoming unfurled.
