Realising I Don't Need You, Shadow Poem by sydney conteh

Realising I Don't Need You, Shadow

It's funny how you are around when I don't want you
You are the monster under my consciousness
I have known you far too long
You can say we are in an abusive relationship
You push me to the edge
You made me question life
You are always there even when you shouldn't
At a party
At a restaurant
With my friends
You are my ugly shadow
So loneliness and depression
Today I am not requesting to allow space for happiness
I am forcing you to
I need happiness
I know you will always be part of me, but will never be all of me
