Reading A Book Poem by Rob Knetsch

Reading A Book

discarding the cover
straight to the first page
chapter one is like a welcome
i feel like a hello

the first sentence, the start
is a hard one, for the writer
it should tell the whole story
without the end, making you want

so i feel the need, and dive into
the first page, the first line
i see the words, feel the letters
and i can taste the black ink

while i dislike the taste
the black overrules the white
starting to move, like a rollercoaster
and i go along with this ride

the speed varies, depending
on my brain's ability to process
while i experience it all
high rises, steep drops, loopings

hanging upside down, spinning
pushed left, right, back and forth
until stopping, reached the end
of the last page
