Overpowered, she couldn't breathe.
She began to shut down, and tune out.

You know what they say- - Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Not a pleasant way to become stronger, though! But it can increase one's understanding of the sufferings of others. Thanks for commenting, Ray.

Not impossible to get back, Judy, but trust in humankind must be regained S-L-O-W-L-Y. That instinct to get clean afterward is less about washing him off herself, than it is about cleansing herself of the evil & violence so that it doesn't become a magnet to attract even more evil and violence. Hope it didn't hurt too much to read it, Bec. It was kinda tough for me to write it! But one of the purposes of writing is to get things out in the open that need to be said. The human condition is universal. Thank you for reading, commenting and rating! :)

Later, once home, She phoned a friend Just to have someone to tell. She wanted to burn her clothing. She soaked in the bathtub, And soaked and soaked. She never wanted to leave the tub. One of the most tragic some event that frequently a physically overpowered soul undergoes on this planet. Artistically expressed. 10++++ Subhas

Sad, but as a retired therapist, I have heard many such stories. Your poem captures what these survivors need, a listener, someone who does not turn away..

Barry, isn't it amazing how one of the first urges (besides wanting to get clean) is to talk about it with someone. Must be a way to begin to get free of the ordeal, and to put it all behind. Thanks for understanding.
