POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Written in response to RAINBOW IN MOTION, by Lorraine Margueritte Gasnel Black

The rainbow has inspired stories and myths in many cultures. In the Judeo-Christian world, a rainbow was the sign of a covenant with God, shown to Noah after the flood.
Among the tribes of Southwest China, the rainbow is a bridge to the world of dreams.
Among the Tibetans, the rainbow is related to death, because it is associated with pathways of colored light through the Bardo realm. When a person dies, he perceives rays of colored light in the intermediary realm between incarnations. He will be irresistibly drawn to the color corresponding to his affinities. If he follows the red beam, he will take rebirth in a place roiled by passions and vexations. If he follows the blue beam, he will take birth under peaceful conditions. If he follows the green, he will take birth in a household that encourages accomplishment, etc. The rainbow reminds us of the different paths we can choose through the post-death realm. See BARDO THODOL, the "Tibetan Book of the Dead." (When the teacher Chongyam Trungpa passed away, his body was cremated. To symbolize the colors and choices which manifest after death, his friends scattered pyrotechnic powders on the wood of his funeral pyre.)

When I look at a rainbow, I think of all these stories- - the promise of new life or the journey of death.

Hope the rainbow then entwined and run into your eyes to give colours whatever u look at, even if it just a plain one... Hopefully it diffracts deeper, the meaning it stained or the lesson it illuminates, not just an image. Heart is the prism.
