Was it a game of lust they played
was it a game of distrust and betrayal;
was it safety that had gone so blind
was it morality that had forgotten it had respect;
was it a conscience that had devoured its name
was it injustice that had withered its feet;
was it a woman who had within her womanhood
was it self-confidence which shook the tower of alertness;
was it the simplicity that evaded the power of caution
was it captivity that hurled the terror;
was it humanity which discarded its feathers
was it mischief that pulsated the horror;
was it death that wrote the names of those savages
was it the fate that turned innocence to ashes;
was it eyes that had to see vision of such episode
was it ears that had to hear the screams of the helpless;
was it this incident which vision and voice has not to tell us
was it this truth that will always haunt our memory;
was it this tragedy that made hearts of our entire nation weep with pity
was it this nightmare which will always make us feel so breathless;
was it a daughter whose parents will never sleep without agony?
was it a sister who will never wake up to another sunrise?

Powerful, well written poem! It's sad to see all this violence against women
