Putin's Illegal War (Sonnets) Poem by Gert Strydom

At eighteen I had been called up to war,
for training, and the country to defend,
the days my life, was turned and bend,
my life changed from what it was before,

now a time of slaughtering I cannot ignore;
that nothing is happening to innocents pretend,
while the Russians kill Ukrainians without end
and do only leave more bloodshed and gore.

Russian soldiers was send to denazify,
where Zelensky, the president is a Jew,
and duly elected to the sovereign Ukraine,
whose brothers and father by Nazis did die.
That Putin ordered this war is true:
war-crimes of Russian soldiers do remain.

As a man I wished to not see war again,
where now again millions of people flee,
the havoc and impact do in dreams remain,
I wish this world a safe place to be.

Thousands of Russian soldiers are now dead,
the cost of this, Putin does not understand,
while in Russia his cronies do lies spread.
The Ukrainians are fighting for their homeland,

schools, apartments and hospitals are destroyed,
the strongest global sanctions are imposed,
most of the world is with Russia annoyed,
where people wish for Putin to be deposed.

Raining down are Russian bombs in a hell:
this do of great inhumanity on civilians tell.

Soldiers are told they are against Nazis fighting,
others that they are on a great exercise:
they are fought to a standstill to their surprise,
when the Ukrainian military strikes like lightning.

No welcome they are now anywhere sighting,
just their and the heroic Ukrainian demise,
causing acts which the world does despise:
war-crimes, civilian death is not the right thing.

Russian equipment are destroyed and left,
as the Ukrainians out-gunned fight back,
without food Russian soldiers partake in theft,
merciless do innocent fleeing people attack,
psychotic with humanity of him bereft,
Putin does righteousness and decency lack,

does with chemical and nuclear weapons chill,
to a patriarch as a divine token,
to his weird reasoning Putin is outspoken,
view it his right to blood of innocents to spill,

as trenches Russians do with soldiers fill,
are stuck with their equipment that are broken,
and the spirit of the Ukrainians is unbroken:
to win they have an almost eternal will;

where Hitler, Lenin, Stalin and Putin
are monsters that with occult power did rise,
did fabricated lies to their followers spin,
to their followers are beyond humans wise,
did grossly against all humanity sin:
as demons in human form are despised.
