Heaven is in the mind of God they say
Who are we to but obey
Heaven is in the mind of God
He knows each pea and every green pod
Heaven is in the mind of God
He knows exactly what we do
How we plan and plot our cunning ways
And ignore others sorrows too
Heaven is in the mind of God
To reach there we must tread
On this real narrow thorny path
And leave the road instead
Heaven is in the mind of God
Beware do not compare
He hath no measuring tool to check
If you have a dark spot or speck
He sees though all the shiny ones
That seem to beam through
He conquers all the pious souls
And even lets the brave through
He seeks the meek and humble ones
That do not brag or roar
For when he comes on the day
Twill be bright lights on their shore
The key through the gateway though
Is but one's own mind you know
Clean thoughts and generous ones
Help shape the key some more
A notch for kindness and gratitude
A notch for selfless acts too
A nice big ring when hymns you sing
Or save a soul or two
So heaven is in the mind of God
But the key is in each of us within
