It struck me while reading this poem how strongly it reminded me of Phillip Larkin's 'The Whitsun Weddings', and I am pretty sure he would have been familiar with Spencer's work.

This is about spiritual enlightenment. Pineal gland activation. The True meaning is hidden deep within the poem. The " Prothalamion" = the wedding chamber = The Thalamus. The lily of the valley and the rose of Sharon.... Kundalini. He who has ears to hear let him hear.; -)
