Prodigal Piglet: ' Return ' Of The Absent N. Carolina Piglet.... [ For Bharati Nayak; Bri's Farm Animal Friends; What Was ' Lost ' Yet Was ' Found ' ]

Rating: 5.0

It seems as though it was at least a month ago a newborn pig
was 'lost'.
Correction: All 3 of pig triplets disappeared & Bharati, in her sleep, may have tossed.
They weren't born in India; they weren't her pigs at all, but she
DID 'care'.
I searched my wife's barn pretty well. For all I knew, they'd disappeared 'into thin air'.

I thought maybe a wild animal had trespassed and snatched up
the newborns,3.
A helper on this 'farm' thought: 'A large male hog may have eaten them with glee.'
The day after ' Mom ' gave birth,2 piglets 'disappeared', in just one farm day! !
Then, after another day, the 3rd little guy or gal was gone. What could I do or say....

....to make the situation better? I searched the room the pigs slept in.
I searched other rooms, including one I throw 'trash' into, basically a 'roomy' trash bin.
I listened intently for the tiny squeals I'd heard the newborns make beneath the bedding hay. : (
If anyone had suggested I'd find them after that, 'no way' I'd
have been apt to say.

Then after WEEKS, yesterday, for a few minutes I saw one tiny
black 'hog', a foot or so in length.
Its mom must have sheltered & fed it the whole time to protect it
& give it strength.
I saw it yesterday sniffing the barn dirt near the 'grownups' & 'teens' I was feeding.
I guess it (and its mom) had waited to build its confidence &
strength it'd be needing....

......to step out with its huge (to it) barn-mates and to be seen
by 'Farmer Bri'.
Then today 'bout 9 a.m. (morning feeding time) I saw it again.
I 'could not' ignore it. I didn't try.
I'll guess the largest barn-mate outweighs the [ 10 lb.? ] 'newbie' nearly times thirty.
And, despite what may be said of 'hogs'/pigs, the newbie & others seem hardly dirty.

I managed to not drop my cellphone into the electric-fenced barnyard, or into a water container.
I DID notice the piglet reacted to the electric fence; I guess the fence makes a good retainer.
He/she, the 'Prodigal Piggy', seemed to not see me OR to just ignore me, Bri.
Oh well, I'm satisfied for now. It's reassuring to know my wife and I will soon have MORE bacon to FRY! !

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
' par·a·ble /ˈperəb(ə) l/ noun a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels.' I'd heard this Biblical tale/parable as a child and young adult, but I'd not known (or not recalled) that the 'Son' had worked on a pig farm. I looked up the story online before I began to write this poem.
