Princess Poem by Ayokunle Adeleye

Princess

It was night
Yet it was bright
Because everything came alive
Like we were in a dive

I couldn't understand
Where the energy was coming from
My mind soared away from land
Like I was in attendance at a prom

We talked and talked
Then down the stairs we walked
And I enjoy every part of it -
Like I enjoy bursting my zit

By then was I tripping
As you are damn good-looking
In my mind, a coin, I'd started flipping;
I was already contemplating hooking

Then I found out
That there's someone else, that's about
Naturally I felt 'somehow'
Then realised he'd been here before now

Though you I won't date—
I've taken that as fate—
In my anthology will this poem be listed
So I'll always remember you once existed
