Pretty Vacant Poem by Matt Render

Pretty Vacant

You'll have to excuse me
I never learnt how to dream
If this all sounds drab and boring
That's because it is
My reality is like concrete
The cement has dried
And the tide drifted
Right over my head
With weights down at my feet
And you all were invited here
For no reason other
Than to see this vacant hole
And to gaze upon it
Not to sulk
Or utter a single word
Of mourning
For its barren growth
Because dreams can't die
And can't be buried
If the dreamer
Was never even alive.
