Prefects Poem by John Fairlamb

Prefects

Prefects

They think I am better than the rest
Of all the boys and girls at school -
I'm the best.

So I wear a special uniform -
Shows I wield the authority
To boss others around,
Make the young ones my skivvy.

What, you may ask, sets me apart?
What puts me at the top of the tree?
It's hard to say, really!
But here I am - deal with it!

What I know is it's not democracy,
The students didn't vote for me.
(who cares!)
I was appointed - perhaps anointed —
By the faculty

Carry my bag! Shine my shoes!
Woe betide you if you refuse —
Don't you dare call this abuse.

We consider it our right,
To demand the subservience of others
We're the bosses, they're the slaves.
We don't pay them, anyways!

My latest poem. Think you can relate.

They think I am better than the rest
Of all the boys and girls at school -
I'm the best.

This poem just reminded me of my days in a boarding school as a teenager. Well thought out with a beautiful rhyme scheme. Thank for sharing the poem and do remain enriched.
