Known it is that in the primordial stew Of plants and (animals afew) There resulted petroleum (in deposits deep) Within earth's bowels to keep. Later discovery has made clear That there was much to fear If one attributed all to existence Of these life form's sombulence. Scientist now know that far from earth Hydrocarbons exist from a different birth And are abundant in composition That matches our accumulation. So before we attribute to the beast All upon which we feast, Perhaps it's better to dwell On the fact that in Earth's raging hell Hydrocarbons may be emerging To satisfy our craving. Methane and others can seep From those bowels hot and deep And replenish all that we may use As civilization man pursues. s
