Poets Of The Past, Present And Future! Poem by Denis Martindale

Poets Of The Past, Present And Future!

Poets of the past, present and future,
Write on for all you're worth,
For each may serve as a teacher
To great and small on Earth.
Your words surpass your mortal frames,
More precious than pure gold,
Though multitudes won't know your names,
Your stories must get told.

From measured insights old and new,
From laughter in each line,
From all God's wisdom granted you,
And love that proved divine.
If born to write, then write in rhyme,
Or free style now and then,
To touch men's hearts and minds each time
As new thoughts flare again.

Like candles for the twilight glow,
Like torches held on high,
Like beacons when the light turns low
Or darkness fills the sky.
Behold the power in your hands,
As ink adorns each page,
The thoughts each poet understands
Set free, as from their cage.

And whether lyric songs transform
The selfish hearts to love,
Above the calm, above the storm,
Let your songs share enough.
For every gift Man's ever shown
Was meant for all Mankind,
Brothers and sisters, share what's known,
In poems left behind.

For poets live and poets die,
Like psalmists long ago,
Until their final breaths pass by,
And no more ink may flow.
Time runs as rivers to the seas,
From seas to sandy shores,
If we write poems meant to please,
God bless both mine and yours.

The message in this poem is for every poet
who has ever lived and those yet to live.
As long as God wants poets to bless Mankind,
we have a faithful duty to write more poems.
