Poets And Politicians - I Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Poets And Politicians - I

Rating: 5.0

Poets and politicians both,
Sleigh of tongue and double entendre,
Steady in trot, nor words of troth,
Vague pens and speeches lacking candour,
They, oh with an all-covering an arch,
Beat around bush trying to make a mark!

Blest souls, oft brevity inclined,
Poets shine forth with garnished gloss,
The mod indulge in a strange floss—
Footloose lines endless oft to wind,
Heedless and hem-less singing a tired song,
A wounded snake as if drags all along1!

Forever short on sense of time,
In sense and sensibility,
Paying homage to brevity,
Politicians fall short on reason's rhyme,
Who, getting petty points go on and on,
Forgetting to stop whilst listeners moan!

Now east, now west, to north and south,
Firm nor grounded, now gay now grim,
Get often caught false foot in mouth,
A product they seem of extreme,
Seldom deep, pretty shallow do they swim,
Surfacing often, but seldom like cream.

One inspired is by double standards,
Poets whilst are two-way meaning bards;
One grows if goes for good of men,
Poet, fecund flaring his pen;
Politics conscience has, nor science,
Poetry comes off clearer conscience.

‘A needless Alexandrine ends the song,
Which like a wounded snake drags its slow length along.'

So true....! Borrowing your words, let me summarize.....Politicians go on and on while listeners moan. They are seldom deep, but pretty shallow! Their words and speeches are tedious and their tongue like an wounded snake drags its slow length along....! For poets and politicians, brevity is a virtue and a quality greatly recommended...! Footloose lines often go heedless.....! Beautifully and thoughtfully put!
