What have I gotten myself into?
A commune of faggots, dilettantes,
Men In mistaken milieus
Ladies feigning radical chic

You spew your venom with authority and verbal skill in this fine poetic rant. I also sense an undercurrent of wry humor beneath your diatribe which appeals. You're right of course. There's an awful lot of crap on this site, but what I love about it is it's thoroughly democratic structure - where the very worst and the very best can cohabit unambiguously. And let's face it, reading the worst of the worst gives many of us courage to try again and reading the best of the best never fails to inspire our little scribblings. Great piece. Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Writing carries with it a responsibility to the audience. That seems to be the ideal outlook that writers should have, however, these days with the advent of postmodern poetry, poets of this genre have no regard for the audience at large. It is as if writing is a hedonistic endeavor and that it only seeks to please the author himself or a limited group of poets with similar leanings and persuasions. These poets are introspective, self content, indifferent to an audience, iconoclastic, absurd, anti-establishment and are averse to rules that have been set by their predecessors. That is the way they express themselves. Now, we cannot be the judge as to whether their output is literature or just trash or plain gibberish. One has to view their writings on the platform of their philosophy. However, there are quite a few who just ape the serious postmodern poets without an understanding of why their poetry is that way. They string together a series of indiscrete and nonsensical words, often profane and sensational… “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing” and pass it on as a PoMo (postmodern) poem. Some complete the trappings with all sorts of artifice like false beards, unkempt look, nasty rebelliousness, bohemian lifestyles…my poem is an indictment of this kind of writing and this kind of writers. Most of us in PH, I presume, are amateurs who write with honesty and sincerity. We need to find encouragement from each other to keep on until we become polished poets or until we find out that we are just non-poets and give up the silly enterprise. In the meantime, let's just keep it up...not worrying whether our pieces would influence audiences in a bad way...they can always dismiss what we write as rubbish and nobody gets hurt. I guess what I'm saying is that amateurs need to be tolerated. Let’s just keep on. Who knows, just like the proverbial million monkeys tapping away at a battery of typewriters for several millennia, by happenstance, a classical work will emerge that will rival Shakespeare's works...tragic or comic.
your poem says nothing but the truth...I reallly liked it..10
Whoooooooaaaaa! Yeah I like this poem great job I like your honesty a lot and your sense of I don't careness (if that's a word) Thnx for the share and remember. Spread Yourself! ! ! !
Exquisitely put Eddie, but there are also the genuine students, the novices, and keen amateurs starting up a new hobby in poetry - after all we must start from some point (like me) . What's more, were this poem to apply to Poemhunter, then there are accomplished poets like yourself who post their works for others like me to enjoy and learn from. But point taken. Great piece. Mark
reminding me of the defiant younger generation, , , , , there are no rules......
Very true. From language to diction, poetry defiled. This holy thing seems no longer sacred. Keep up the good spirit, Eddie. Regards Naseer
I agree with Great Greenwolfe. You should forgive me too for any aberrations in my language. This poem must serve all modern poets as a good caution
HaHaHaHaHaHa! I love it. I could never have said it this well. I would say you covered it all. As one who is a full fledged member, I must plead guilty to whatever infractions I have committed. And I beg for your forgiveness. GW62
