Pocket picker's saga
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
my friend and I once caught a pickpocket
then to police to get him, a.jail ticket
inspector had.fun with third degree ways
then locked up, to take to court, next day
we signed the report and then off to home
a month later, court asked us to come
I went but police could not bring convict
case.adjourned two weeks, to be succinct
the.court hearing finally.took place
guy and I, saw each other face to face
he looked arrogant and had no remorse
for a habitual guy, seemed par for.course
small statured, his poverty has no doubts
only way he could earn, but he was lout
after brief questions, my job over
around there, I had no business to hover
this was in nineteen seventy eight
legally speaking, it was quite all right
in hindsight, the enormity of injustice
tenner picked; 45 days jailed; just.precise
would it have been better to have.excused?
hard life of petty criminals, doesn't amuse

Our justice delivery system is overloaded and jammed. criminals suffer enormously during trial period. Crime prevention is lax. Thanks for your comments!

May be out of poverty they resort to such wicked ways. But excusing it without handing them over to law will only help to encourage such crimes. Therefore they need to be warned and punished so that they would think of taking up some 'decent' means to find at least a hand to mouth existence! A common occurrence beautifully brought to light!
