Pipe Dream Poem by April Humason

Pipe Dream

We were living the dream, you and I, a team,
Life felt like an extravagant, thrilling scheme,
Together, we soared on hope's sunbeam,
But alas, it was a mere pipe dream.

For you had another man in your view,
Sharing that sweet honey we thought was true,
He played your heart like a play bunny, too,
Oh, life's irony, a comedic debut.

Now I'm living the dream on my own,
Feeling the shadows of solitude thrown,
One milestone to the next, I've grown,
And tomorrow's path is still unknown.

Yet, memories of our dream persist,
A tender echo that can't be dismissed,
Though apart, your presence still exists,
In my heart, where your love persists.

I cherish those moments we once shared,
Dreams of us still fill the night's air,
A flame in my heart, forever ensnared,
In the realm of dreams, where love dared.

So, I'll carry on, despite the ache,
For someday, another dream may awake,
And though today, my heart's still at stake,
In the future, new love's light may partake.
