Pillar Poem by Anja Jenkins

Pillar

Pillar

I might have been special, I might have been kind
But everything I said or did has been erased by time.
You said I was special, you said I was the one.
But I guess not, since you left after having your fun.

So another girl hurt you, and left you to cry.
Is that really so different from what you did to I?
She stomped on your heart and broke it in two
(That’s something you know I would never do)

You said I was your pillar, for whom you’d been waiting a long time
But if I was your pillar, why couldn’t you be mine?
As sure as ancient Rome, you forgot and I fell
(That was when you didn’t need me—I can tell)
So without me you stood on your own
Then disappeared and left me alone.

We did a lot and had more to share
But love only works when both people care.
