From reading some of your other poems, I had the impression of you basking at the hearth of love, celebrating the give-and-take of love in the here-and-now. In contrast, this coyote seems to be an eternal seeker of love, like a troubador. It pursues the elusive, ultimate meaning of love. Its celebration of moonlight seems to delve into the riddle of existence, and love seems to be part of that.

Yes, I was surprised. I was also surprised that this coyote seems to range across abstract territory. To circumvent the world requires a special understanding of the world. Drinking moonlight puts it pretty high up on the food chain of cognition.

Thanks for visiting my poem Denis. Still digesting your response. Not sure if your 'surprise' though is a pleasant one or a kind of disappointment? Is drinking moonlight really only for the super smart or can it just be a beautiful image also?
