Beautiful work. Initially I was attracted by the title of the poem as the smell of wet earth is my favorite. Glad to read this lovely poem,

A beautiful poem. All that imagery seems so fit to uplift a heart burdened by the weight of life’s drudgery. A 10+

" pet·ri·chor [? ? ] i don't 'know' this word. is capitalizing it altering the meaning, i wonder. noun a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather." I'd probably use " daylight" , but i'll take " day light" ! and i'd use " grindstone" , here in U.S. And i'd use " self-sufficient" . but i really like this poem. to MyPoemList. bri :)

Thank you Bri Edwards for explaining the meaning of the word 'Petrichor'.I do not know its exact ODIA language word for Petrichor. This poem is the transcreation of the poem I had posted in Odia language long ago on Poem Hunter - - 'ଚିର କାଳ ସେଇ ଭିଜା ମାଟି ରବାସ୍ନା(Petrichor, The Eternal) .Many readers including you had requested me for a translation of that Odia poem.

From where comes the voice? Is it from heaven or from my heart? So blissful this feeling! Is it sweet breeze of Spring? Or is it, from the wet earth The Petrichor rising? .....fantastic expression of feeling. Here is too nice expression of petrichor we find. A beautiful poem from your candid pen is amazingly shared.10 from me.

Thank you Kumarmani Mahakul Sir for liking and commenting on the poem.'Petrichor' is the pleasant smell that comes from earth with the touch of first rain after a long hot weather. We do not have a single word in Odia language to describe this pleasant smell.

Yes, one needs that falling back upon in life, to become 'self-sufficient whole, one complete being', as you said. And after a rough and tough ride that be the life, one needs a soothing balm. Petrichor is one. And we all in India are waiting for this heady smell after first rains. A lovely piece.

Thank you Anniruddha Pathak ji for your kind read and lovely comment. As you said, petrichor is the soothing balm that heals the pain.It remain concealed in the earth itself and rises at the touch of first rain.
