Perhaps! Poem by Alison Gaff

Perhaps!

The cold air has an eerie feel
With no sound from beast or bird
And with no leaves left a rustling
Distant traffic sounds are all that's heard

Then one blackbird breaks the spell
Singing from high up in the tree
It's still too dark to see him
But I wish I could sing like thee

Gradually other birds join in
Another blackbird and robins too
There's some that I don't recognise
Just wish I knew who was who

The dawn still seems a long way off
For it's so black and dark
But far out to the horizon
There is a very small faint spark

I watch as things get lighter
Now dawns really on its way
And more and more birds join in
Heralding in a brand new day

And now the sun is rising
Thin clouds keep it under wraps
It gives off a peachy glow
Looks like being a good day... perhaps!
