This sounds like a story of toxic love- all encompassing to the point that the woman loses herself and is not strengthened by it, but quite the opposite.
I am not so sure about that, because he went singing that he fell in love with her

@CarlRoussell Yes, he went singing that he fell in love with her, but after making her lose herself. He sang to hide his betrayal. Love would have never allowed him to make her suffer.
