Peace And Goodwill Poem by Jayne Louise Davies

Peace And Goodwill

Rating: 4.8

We were children in a time that sticks in the mind,
Greatful for everything we had,
The sixties back then was truly one of a kind,
We walked to school each and every day,
Those memories never go away.
On christmas time,
We'd look in awe,
At the old trimmed up tree,
That stood there on the floor,
We knew the true meaning of christmas back then,
I still hear the sounds of the Salvation Army band,
Play those wonderful songs,
Over and over again.
And Mum would cook a feast so fine,
Meat with all the trimmings,
And a trifle that tasted divine.
We sang carols in the school hall,
Danced at the christmas disco,
We had a ball!
Sat around the fire so cosy and warm,
They were the best christmas memories by far.
We opened our presents with a shriek and a smile,
A new doll to hold,
With hair of shining gold,
Such happiness there to see mum smile,
As I walked down the stairs.
That memory will always be there.
Christmas now will never feel the same,
I long to go back to that time once again,
I look back at that home,
Way down the hill,
And remember those times,
Of peace and goodwill.

You were blessed to have such wonderful Christmases. Mine were the opposite, my parent's lived separate lives, even during Christmas. A good 5*
