Peace Poem by BASAB CHAUDHURI

Peace

Where does a man end up?
With what?

Beauty.
Wealth.
Family.

All depreciate —
age, inflation, familiarity
quietly collecting their dues.

Then—

The shadow lengthens.
The last rays loosen their hold.
Night settles over the living day.

A steady yielding.

The reclining body searches for what?
The arrival of a full stop.

The restless waves that once rose in fury
gradually fold into themselves,
learning the shape of stillness.

Rest.
Eternal rest.
Peace.
