Pay Heed My Friend Poem by Raymond Farrell

Pay Heed My Friend

Pay heed my friend
If you want to get ahead
In this world of mediocrity
Where meritocracy is dead.

Look around and observe carefully
What exactly do you see?
A whole generation obsessed
With nothing but only ME.

But what if. alas
Your abilities aren't that good
Do not despair or grieve
Just embrace victimhood.

To succeed you must become a victim
Today, it's the new in thing
People are rushing to become victims
To acquire the benefits it can bring.

So scour your past, or
Look at you lineage, your genes
Perhaps there, innocuously hidden
Is the fulfillment of your dreams.

The reason for your lack of success
A way to avoid taking responsibility
For your failure to do as you ought
Your gateway to conviviality.

When you find what you're looking for
Then you will have the key
To lower standards and open doors
For exceptions must be made for ME.
