Pawned For Eternity Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Pawned For Eternity

Rating: 5.0

A woman is still
part of her husband
in body and soul.*
She has nothing
for herself,
of herself.
A life
pawned
for eternity.

Note:
* I am not referring to the great Ardhanareeswara Concept in Hinduism. But, to the contemporary Indian context where male chauvinism still rules; reflective of Manusmriti; it is a man's world. Still!

So very illuminated and kind of you! It is also, still the concept in some adopted western religions, where the woman is relegated to servant instead of, person. As a woman, I thank you deeply, dear and honest Poet!

Thank you. On birth, the child (both male and female) is bestowed with the name of the father. After marriage, she begets the name of her husband

It is true; They are still a oppressed lot despite their dedication to family and society. Nicely inked.

Very true. Women continue to be oppressed everywhere in the society. This oppression starts at home.
