Patti Poem by William Kofoed

Patti

That last night

Then you went away

To chase after an heir

Of a rich family

You were not

The only one

Many women got

A gleam in their eye

I wonder about

How that he felt

To be chased

Only for money

Be seen as a way

To get to a fortune

And not as a man

I wonder if he

Married for love

To a woman who didn't

Know who he was

And left all of you

With nothing at all

Not even with me

Then you went away

To chase after money
