Patchwork Wings Poem by Lovelyn Madriaga

Patchwork Wings

I always hear how eagles fly
how big are their wings
how far is their sight.
I always thought
I only long
the protection of their claws
and the sternness of their cry.

But later I learned
my eyes also feast
on the parrot's colorful plumage;
that my ears enjoy
the melody of the sparrows;
that I like searching
a little penguin's burrow;
and that I am amused
of the crows' clever mind

Put them all together
I don't know what to say,
if there's an avian with features like these,
how high do they fly,
how blue is their sky,
how smooth is their glide?
