I do enjoy how you write about life - you make it real. This was no exception, as it was written very well. Warmest regards, CJ Heck

Brief, concise, to the point, yet evocative and complex. RJDates

Love the overall sense of the poem. The breaks in the words completely set the pace for the read and make it even better. Thanks, roshni.

James, this is a paradox...in that the simplicity of the poem makes it complex. At first reading, I wasnt so sure about it, but found myself returning to it and contemplating the need which went beyond a fishing hole and a pole. I don't, however, think the title fits the poem. This is just my opinion, of course, but do think about it. Raynette

There's just something about water that's comforting, relaxing, and mind-altering. What better place to contemplate life's choices and consequences? Nicely done, James. Linda :)

A lovely relaxing read James, made better by the pauses in the words, who needs a line, and who needs the fishes lol, 10 Lynda xx

I love the elipses throughout your journey here James! it gives the reader the feelings of the urgency to just catch his breath and assess the outcome of his decisions in life. Passions pride, leaves us nowhere to hide. Thank you for pointing me in this direction. We all need our space, this poem reminds me of an old expression If wishes were fishes We'd all be down the chip shop! Yeah! who needs a pole? Smiling at you Tai

I really like this James, it appears much deeper than at first read. Your feelings resonate and I like the backdropp of the fishing pool with no rod. Interesting and poignant. HG: -) xx

Well, being an avid bass fisherman myself, James, I can assure you that I would ever be near any body of water without my fishin' pole! Still, fishing is not the subject of this fine poem, which is quite well written and beautifully expressed. Often in our lives, we make a mistake or say something to hurt someone in a foolish moment of pride or passion. Generally, most folks lament such a mis-spoken comment (to borrow a phrase made popular by Hillary Clinton last year) for a considerable period of time afterwards, and little can be done to rectify the situatuon. The regret you felt for such a remark runs all through this superbly written poem. Carl.

There is nothing like sitting by the water to clear your mind, make a decision or just be out with mother nature. There is nothing like country... sounds like a poem, I'll bet it is! Loved it, James! A '10! ' my friend. Warm Wishes, Marilyn

So true - fishing rod is an excuse for a man to get away to sit and muse. Great piece James Mark

Yep, I can go with that one. A well written piece. Mine is country walking for hours on end, and then wondering how you got where you were going without any thought. Enjoyed. Thanks for pointing me to it Steve
