Tough piece of work, word by word, line by line and with a strong product as the result is no mean feat! Great discipline and invention, and the incantatory technique helps conjure strong images and a vivid atmosphere. A real pleasure to experience.
I recall coming across this form a few years back. This is excellent, the form itself must be difficult to use and not sound olde English. You manage to avoid that very well. Notice the similarity with this and Blue's lyrics. I do recall that some early French composers made lute songs of a few of these. Unfortunately is great to see writers tackling various form and learning from them. I'd concur with Jim comcerning the difficulties forms can present. This is a great piece of work, Ben. I hope that you might tackle som other forgotten forms.
