Palapala Ho'omau Church & Cemetery Poem by Darwin Henry Beuning

Palapala Ho'omau Church & Cemetery

I walked among the graves
Alone
Many expressions of love abound

On one,
Christmas Ornaments

On another,
Cowboy boots
And a lariat

Then I stopped
For on a slab
'The Star of David'

Inscription:

Beloved Father

Anthony Greenberg

Loyal Son

1937 - 1993

Below that
A simple request

REMEMBER ME

The Church,
It cries out, it needs

A Man of the Cloth
A Pastor

One, will step forward
One, will be chosen

'There is a Presence'
This is Sacred Ground

A moving poem about a cemetery visit, which I do quite often. I feel uplifted yet dismayed. The way you single out 'The Star of David', and 'Remember Me' is most impressive.

Very nice. Anthony is now immortalized in your poem.

another gentle but pointed tap on the shoulder from a poet who, wherever he stands, sees something of significance to remind the reader of events and times that are important, though they may otherwise be small modest moments
