Pains Of A Black Man Poem by Adams King

Pains Of A Black Man

Rating: 2.5

Am I a painting of humiliation?
So far have I journeyed the length of discrimination
Am I a storybook for ugly lips to read?
That I suffer the wrath of natures own deed
Am I a color of shameful omen?
Will I for a prayer not answered say amen?
From the years of my forefathers and fathers
Am I by my artist painted to suffer?
Am I in a world that dark skin irritates?
Too many darkness have I accommodate
Though black is my skin, not my heart
Listen, you men of judging mouth
How long will I drink from a cup of emptiness
How long will I sink in a pit of filthiness
Have I into the world come to go with pains
O peace! , when will I see your heavenly rays
