Pain Relief Poem by Daisy May

Pain Relief

I don't do it to get attention.
I don't do it for people to feel sorry.
I don't do it to end my life.
I do it because the physical pain helps.
Helps distract me from my emotional pain.
Emotional pain is hard to deal with.
Talking doesn't help.
I've tried.
Five years with a therapist.
Five years of just telling them what they wanna hear.
I've stopped going.
They pump you full of drugs.
Drugs that don't even help.
Drugs that make you groggy.
Drugs that make you not you.
Physical pain helps.
Maybe only for a short time.
But that short time is moments of peace.
Peace I can't find anywhere else.
