Our Prefab Poem by Patricia Denise Newman

Our Prefab

Rating: 5.0

We lived in a little prefab
My sister, mum, dad and me
With a flat roof and plaster walls
And a garden to run free
Two bedrooms and a bathroom and a separate loo
A kitchen and big living room
With a lovely coal fire too
An inbuilt fridge and cooker
With a gas fired copper tub
We seemed to have all luxury
Along with lovely grub

We settled in quite happily
In our cosy little home
And lived there for more than 20 years
Never needing far to roam
Then came the time the council
Decided we must move
Our prefab was outdated
The area must improve

And so we all departed
Each to another place
The prefab was demolished
With flats built in the space
I'll not forget our prefab
Or the garden all around
The happy times we spent there
Digging stones up from the ground
Trying to grow potatoes
Collecting balls from off the roof
It was our childhood playground
If you want to know the truth

It was sad to leave our prefab
And all its memories
But time moves on and soon we had
New homes and families.

Loved this! I've lived in a prefab house for over 30 years. They've been modernised now. Loved reading about your wonderful childhood growing up in yours x Thanks for sharing!
