'Only Those Who've Served Truly Know' Poem by Gary Bernard

'Only Those Who've Served Truly Know'

'Only Those Who've Served Truly Know'
They marched off to war to the sounds of patriotic songs and cheers, Young minds driven by duty and sacrifice, Hearts full of love for family and country, Souls assured that God was with them.
Bodies trained, fit, ready for the fight, Unaware the enemy felt the same. As the battle raged, they learned truths, Only warriors can ever know.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
As Remembrance Day approaches, we are reminded of the countless souls who served with unwavering resolve. 'Only Those Who've Served Truly Know' delves into the profound experiences of these heroes. My piece is a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of all who have served, honoring their shared humanity and the bonds that unite us. Among them is my late father, Sgt. H. F. Bernard, who served in World War II from 1939 to 1945. His dedication and sacrifice, like so many others, reflect our collective sense of decency and the strength of the human spirit. Let us reflect on their stories and ensure every voice is heard and every life remembered.
