Only An Option Poem by susette varga

Only An Option

Rating: 5.0

Why is it
That I failed to see
The disrespect
You felt for me?

Did I give
My heart too soon
Dampening the thrill
Of the chase for you?

Not my usual practice
Surprisingly
It was your charm
Convincing words
Lulled me
In to a false
Sense of security

Leading me
To believe
You and I were
On the same page

You wished for someone
Kind, loyal and true
As did I
So gave my
Trust to you

You loved me mostly
For my kind heart
I loved you
Unconditionally

It's nearly a year
Since the day we met
Our first anniversary
We will not celebrate

Words once spoken
Simply were not true
Promises made
Were but a game to you

I passed the time
You had your fun
Until someone you thought better
Came along

Younger and prettier
Pleasing to the eye
A boost to your ego
A trophy
A feather in your cap

Like a lamb to the slaughter
Slowly sacrificed
Stabbed in the heart repeatedly
Now surplus to your cause

As you stroll along the beach
With Isla holding hands
Your self importance and deceit
Walk with you arm in arm

As she reaps the benefit
Of your sweet talk
And your charm
Your preference
Will turn substitute
For the option
That you scorned

Karma will not tolerate
Narcissism nor pretense
Treachery and phoniness
Will inevitably be repaid

On the toss of a coin
The tables shall be turned
She will vent her wrath and punish you
For your underhanded ways

Pretentiousness and vanity
Returned to you tenfold
Sweet Isla that you now adore
Will prove as insincere as you

She will soon move on
Just as you done
To option
Number two

You passed the time
She had her fun
Poor little lamb
Sacrificed
Your heart has snapped in two

How does it feel
To be betrayed
To discover to your dismay
Her sweet talk hid such deceit
To her you were only an option

Never the one
That you were led to believe
A lesson learned
So painfully
Karma's debt
Now repaid
