Thank you so very much. Yes, what I wanted to capture that blurring of the line between the living and the departed. In some way, one's passing may not remove that person from one's immediate social circle. Thank you so much, Sylvia.

ONE: Your poem represents a togetherness and finally a parting of the person once loved and lived. A parting in social view. With this One Last Supper the part of the dead person once living, is closed officially and socially.. About mourning, remembering the best parts of the deceased, the things that we had not seen, to comfort the mourning with love, to say adieu forever to the dead person, which was a dear part in our life.

Perhaps because of the title your poem I initially thought of the final meal in the gospel accounts of he 'Last Supper' that Jesus shared with his Apostles in Jerusalem before his crucifixion. On reading all the beautiful comments I am now in deep reflection on the passing of loved ones.10+ and to my favourites :)

Well done- the wake after the funeral gives the family and friends a chance to remember and weep, remember and laugh, to realize things that one had not seen, to comfort the grieving with love, and to realize how abruptly death can take people out of our lives forever. That one last supper together to draw us together before we leave and face the dark emptiness that was once where the deceased lived in our lives. 10++++++++

Susan, thank you so much. And you are absolutely right about that slice of darkness that departs with each of us after that final send off. Thanks again.

Hi MJ :) Nice work and theme as well. I agree with Muhammad Ali, it can be a separation between who is here and who is there and basically a hint of future self too, the event and things are relatable the title remind me of a painting with same title :) wonderful work, one last supper is a lasting celebration of togetherness...guess there is different time than earth ;)

Hi Mark. Hmm. I feel that, attending a funeral, always helpful to understand how to live this life. All this world... everything to me will be dead when i die, and this world and everything was born with my birth. Living ones, with the magic of life, suffer in some known way. what magic and kind of suffering with the dead ones! ! Your poem is heartfelt.

Thank you so much Muhammad. Indeed funerals tell as much about the living as anything else. Appreciate very much your great insight.

The truth in your poem comes back to me as I recalled the wakes that I had attended. Indeed the passing of someone do causes the disintegration of many a social unit. This is evident as we age, when our social group gets smaller.with time. Your poems make me do something that I am not very enthusiastic about; Think! Thanks Mj

Loke, Thank you. And you are so absolutely right. This is the kind of observation or insight that comes and is reinforced with age. Thank you so much.

What prompted this verse was the realization that someone's passing can also cause an entire social network to disintegrate, to come apart. The funeral can effectively be the one last time that old social units can come together. Your reply to Mr.Mahakul helped a lot to understand this lovely poem.

This Tanka is really very emotional poem. Charisma's present during funeral provoke thought. Death is a truth of life and this comes as per command of time. In funeral rituals are performed by relatives and last meal is shared among guests. An amazing and brilliant poem is shared...10
