On An Uneasy World Poem by Matthew Holloway

On An Uneasy World

The world appears at unease
with itself and all those within it
there is a growing imbalance
how are we to right the scales
when all see them as rigged
further tilt the truth of it all
equality seems more like revenge
the levelling of old scores
the box ticking of bureaucracy
forms and files to rectify
and adjust history to appease
the bias of groups, box ticks
to raise and praise, promote
positive discrimination
the new cliché, social poison
intelligence, merit and skill
let it all be dammed to hell
it does not rectify a past
many do not wish to learn from
the world is in a state of winter
as snowflakes fall about us all
