On A Bleak Tuesday Morning Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

On A Bleak Tuesday Morning

On a bleak Tuesday morning
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I thought of a feminist saying which goes thus:
Virginity is not a virtue anymore
"And is a cold companion in bed"
But this is not true of me for I had sex the old fashioned way
Saving myself up for the right man and a few good men secretly and later;

I thought of an artificial insemination slogan:
My virginity got taken away by sperm
Which made me feel all warm inside
But this is not true of me for I conceived through glorious sex
Which even had an orgasmic aftermath for me for I lazed in bed after
And I remember that my husband's friend and ex-boss, John,
Is special for me for it was his 40th birthday
And we were to go to his house in the evening
And it is a treasured memory for I conceived after beautiful sex
On the very same afternoon;

But this is true of me
Gentlemen like Mr. Sundar Pichai (CEO of Google)make promises to pay me
And I am yet to find out if they make them or break them
And other gentlemen like PM Justin Trudeau compliment me
On looking at my submitted and published videos on You Tube
Saying that I have chic and sex appeal
And also are yet to keep the promises that they have made to publish and pay me;

And then there are other men who do not make promises
And sing appealingly, If only I had a brain, like Harry Connick Jr.
But who sing: Oh, I could tell you why
The ocean's near the shore
I could think of things I never thunk before
And then I'd sit and think some more;

And to PM Justin Trudeau and Mr. Sundar Pichai,
I say the ocean's near the shore
For the ships have to start and dock from some place
And the waves have to reach the sands of time
And I have to thing of things I never thunk before
Which make beautiful things which would help me think some more.
