Oldest Garment In My Wardrobe Poem by Umasree Raghunath

Oldest Garment In My Wardrobe

4 March
Oldest garment in my wardrobe

Tucked away under the pile
Of fashion n recent clothes
An old bag lay as a distant memory
It contains a 30 year old shirt
Reminding of dad who left me fret
The grey print on shirt is in tact
It's still untorn n wearable in fact
It holds the smell of the man
Feels his presence as the child in me hugs
It's the last shirt he wore
I will cherish even it's tore
Everytime I clear my wardrobe
I take it out, touch it to my heart
And quietly replaces it in the shelf
Like a precious treasure providing relief
It's old, but a true gold
It's never gonna be used,
But to me it's a treasure to preserve
For it's not just another piece of cloth
But the only remains of the man I deeply loved
