Ludo is a whippet dog, the perfect family pet,
And when he was a puppy, he was sweet as you can get.
Now he is a charming soul, a gentle, calm old man,
Puppy was so playful, and exploring was his plan.
Now, he likes a walk outside, and grass between his toes,
Puppy wore himself out, always following his nose.
Old boy loves his home comforts, his cuddles start at four,
Puppy was too quick for that, he'd lots to do and more.
Whippets, now, are known to run, but Ludo's speed has passed,
Puppy was a lightning bolt, so bright, and just as fast.
Ludo's fur is rather grey, round ear and eye and cheek,
Once he shone just like the sea, as blue and racecar sleek.
Beyond his times of training now, he's passed his days of zest,
Puppy was so spirited, as all days were the best.
Ludo has slowed down so much, with stiffness in his spine,
Puppy never knew of such, ‘cause everything was fine.
Now at fifteen years he's lived, his life and all its days,
Puppy seemed so destined to, stay young in all his ways.
Peaceful times together as, you watched him while he slept,
Knowing time creeps up on him; old age we must accept.
Hold him tight and lay him down, give him his favourite toy,
Stroke him and remind him that, he's always your good boy.
Puppy then or old dog now, he's loved there is no doubt,
For to bring such happiness, is what a dog's about.
