A wonderful poem Ernestine - I grew up a stones throw from the race course and you have really captured the spectacle of this eccentric event. I have fond memories of climbing over (or under) fences to get onto the heath during race week - the one time you can stand out from the crowd in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt! Great place to people watch. Warmest wishes, Justine

And what do the horses wear? Little men in funny outfits. The whole thing sounds more like a clown circus than a fashionable event.. Great fun, this poem. -chuck

one of my little ambitions is to wear the hat at Ascot Ernestine. I sweet little rhyming muse on the delight of the British Racing Scene in this country. Very Posh ain't it? lol Grinning at you, poor little not rich poetic girl with hat! lol Tai

This has what I like to call, slapstick poetry. Some people would turn their noses up at it, yet a lot of skill goes into creating these types of works. This is no exception. the ABCCA structure give a good trotting like feel to this theme as well as limrick feel (I seem to recall that this structure was derived from the limrick, probably for the old music halls) . I enjoyed it Ernestine.

I remember seeing the great Hat Review on the news there! Very amusing. Some of them looked like little villages. A fun and jolly good write, dear Ernestine! ! ! Love, Esther : ]
