A young man sailed far from home,
Where the ocean turns to foam.
On the shore waved Nell Marie,
To her lover out on the sea.
It was on the weathered Irish coast,
That emerald isle he loved the most.
Kissed his sweetheart and said farewell,
Now, of their lover's tale I will tell.
On the southern Ireland coast,
Where the seagulls fly the most.
Sailing over the vast ocean blue,
Through the fog, mist and the dew.
On the windy rugged shore, forever burning,
Shines a golden loving light, for his returning.
He's far across the stormy sea,
Oh my love, come back to me.
So many years had passed away,
He returned one night in May.
There to find his sweetheart Nell,
Standing on the shore to tell.
Her golden light is still aglow,
For from afar, the path to show.
Never more Nell, shall I depart,
For that is written, in my heart.
