The question in the last lines and in notes is very important, and i would say that the poets and people concerned do care really, poetry is getting popular but not in print much...but on the other hand this is a great honor for a poet to be a published writer/poet...we are in a chaotic world! ! !
poetry is the basis, which is the word has wings and can fly wherever we want, even to the darkest corner of life that untouched and as long as the words still have meaning in life, poetry will survive and stay alive an evocative poem thanks for sharing
Poetry lives in everthing we see, touch, feel, hear...poetry will live even after we are all gone. Nice work!
The written word will soon be obsolete though some still buy collections. Great views and brilliant composition. Poetry sites at facebook have multiplied -see you there!
Beautiful poem..with so many valuable comments..so I am left with no words..only I can tell is I loved reading it.
if language of art die..i dont know where will heart to cry, to cheer to share...as poetry is where heart find it calmness_Soul
Poetry is for self expression and just for the pleasure of doing it! It may not turn out to be a means of generating money! But the delight it gives is beyond all limitations! That's why all of us enthusiastically congregate in poem hunter. As you say, it is not easy to sell poems. Someone has rightly remarked that publishing a book of poems is like dropping a flower petal down the Grand Canyon and waiting for the echo!
Poetry is a bit like mining for gems. There will be a lot of stone but the great poems like briliant gems will survive. When compared with the number of novels written and so few authors are remembered of academically important over time I think poetry is similar. It is an art and like all are should be practiced to be improved. A lot of poems should be regarded like visual artists sketches and not meant to master pieces or necessarily displayed or sold or considered to be difinitive but developmental works of progress. The test would lie with the poet when asked to compile an anthology of their work and a true assessment is required where all works are compared by them and over time they will know whether they have progressed and will know the stronger pieces. Here the real poetry is filtered and gradually rises not to be sold, but to exist in culture in memorial sustaining its validity and value.
sometimes I wonder David, I read so many things which in my humble opinion I do not consider to be poetry. then there are many skilled writers. the sale of books is on the decline. so we must go to other resources.
Beautiful opening line and many questions. Poetry is a noble deed indeed, but how many poets can earn a living as poets? Nice poem.
Martyrs to their art What wonderful words David. A really great write. I am amazed at how many readers are on line at one time so with this I think we will survive, perhaps we will record our words as well as write?
A good point. I never really do anything with mine, maybe I'm just lazy. But you have got me thinking. Maybe I'll give something a try. See if I can find a new way to get poetry heard and read. But like I say I am lazy, so it could take a while. A great poem.
Poets can create their own Ebooks now, for free, so they no longer have to rely on acceptance by publishers. I, am hoping to get one out there soon - whether anyone buys it is another matter! ! Good point Dave, but there are options now which weren't available in the past.
Poetry will never die. The expression of life and emotions eill always find a way. Even though book buying is declining kindle light is burning.
