This is your 500th poem. So, first of all, my heartiest congratulations to you for reaching this big milestone! And you also get the first 10/10 from me. You have touched an important subject in this poem, with an attractive title, 'Of Human Bondage'. I haven't seen the movie, nor read the famous novel, so I'll dwell only on this poem. Yes, love 'cuts away our defenses', like a knife through butter, and make us so vulnerable to the emotional 'tidal waves': 'A Tidal wave that swallows, All other waves, All that one craves, And blindly we must follow.' - So true! 'When two hearts slowly intertwine, No other bondage can compare, We see love-lights go everywhere, ' - Beautifully expressed! Wish you reach yet bigger milestones in poetry. My very best wishes...
Nice piece. And who is he the one that Love refuses to see... is he still human? What curse, what demon, what spell dwell upon his head...? * *
Inspired by Somerset Maugham's wonderful novel, Of Human Bondage and it's film, wonderfully and unforgettably played by Bette Davis and Leslie Howard. Impressed by all of them and grateful. for the profound feeling they left in me for so long..
Love destroys are senses and defenses going along with taking away ones sight and replacing it with what love only wants you to see blinding you from everything else. I like the thought conveyed which is love is out of our control we don't pick or choose who we love or when we love, we just do and are weak and powerless to stop it. Though I only agree with this partially. Love can be deceptive which I feel isn't always good because many times we love those that don't deserve it and end up getting ourselves hurt in the end which makes it harder for us to love the next person that comes along that totally deserves it. So in times past if I recognized I had strong feelings for someone that I knew wasn't good for me I would find reasons and create situations to twist those feelings into something other than love. Was it painful? Yes. Would I do it again? Most certainly, because sometimes we just have to use that thing in our heads and force ourselves to see what our hearts do not want us to. That is love for ones self. A great poetic thought conveyed though I did enjoy it very much.
